Quiet Moments with Sophie Davidson

July 20, 2013

I came across Sophie Davidsons' work whilst studying Photography at University College Falmouth, (who is now a recent graduate from Falmouth) and since have quietly admired her work through Tumblr. I never got the chance to approach Sophie at University as I left before I finished my first year; despite being in love with the course I felt like I was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sophies' work inspires me.

She captures quiet small moments. The moments that we ignore whilst we are looking towards the main event. The people she photographs often seem relaxed and unaware of her camera, which removes the guard we put up in front of the cameras' gaze; I think it reveals our true self and creates a purer portrait.

Since leaving the course I haven't photographed as much. Photography has always been a part of my life but I feel I need to reconnect with it.  I want to start photographing again, until it becomes second nature. So that those around me don't flinch at the sight of a camera; but it infact becomes an extension of me. Sophie's work reminded me of this.
