Quiet Moments with Sophie Davidson

July 20, 2013

I came across Sophie Davidsons' work whilst studying Photography at University College Falmouth, (who is now a recent graduate from Falmouth) and since have quietly admired her work through Tumblr. I never got the chance to approach Sophie at University as I left before I finished my first year; despite being in love with the course I felt like I was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sophies' work inspires me.

She captures quiet small moments. The moments that we ignore whilst we are looking towards the main event. The people she photographs often seem relaxed and unaware of her camera, which removes the guard we put up in front of the cameras' gaze; I think it reveals our true self and creates a purer portrait.

Since leaving the course I haven't photographed as much. Photography has always been a part of my life but I feel I need to reconnect with it.  I want to start photographing again, until it becomes second nature. So that those around me don't flinch at the sight of a camera; but it infact becomes an extension of me. Sophie's work reminded me of this.

Musings on Blogging...

July 18, 2013

Blogging is a pretty saturated market for young women who want to make their mark. It's hard not to try and replicate other blogs and feel pressured to follow the trends and compete with the best. I think it would be false if I was to blog portraits of myself in wacky outfits...that's just not me. I'd feel like I was trying too hard.  I may as well stick to/blog what I know!

I would like my blog to be true to myself , to be a reflection of me. To share my journey of finding my dream career and becoming the person I know I'm capable of being.
Hopefully it will encourage me to be more proactive and help turn my whirlwind of dreams and ideas into realities.

In all honesty my original aim for starting a blog was to give potential employers a window into my life, skills and abilities. And even though I don't think I'm up to scratch yet, I hope that eventually I will write eloquently and always have in mind that the photographs and words I post could be worthy of being published. I want to be intensely proud of my blog, I have a lot to learn and a lot I want to achieve and I hope I will gain the odd follower along the way.

My journey starts with working with the talented Natalie at La Designerie as she is currently designing a fresh look for my blog...

Here is a collection of beautiful blogs that have inspired me to start my own..

Bedroom Tour - My New Room!

July 17, 2013

As my last post was my thoughts on my ideal room I thought I'd show you what I've tried to create! I moved to Manchester on monday into a house with 3 lovely ladies...4 if you include their beautiful cat Annie! The girls all study creative courses at Manchester Met Uni so I'm dead happy to be living with them. Uni doesn't start till September so ill be to-ing and fro-ing from Home, Manchester and London. But for the time being...here's my room!

Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart.

Do not worry if you have built your castles in the air. They are where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

Allthough I have lots of belongings on show - my room feels a lot less cluttered and the pale blues and creams make it feel calm and cosy!

Creating Peace & A Space Of My Own..

July 11, 2013

It's important to have a peaceful space in your life to unwind-

My bedroom has always been a sanctuary - becoming a reflection of myself from my teenage years, plastering band posters on every wall to my first student bedroom adorned with Polaroid's, vinyl and a lot of Ikea cushions!

My bedroom has always been the only place where I can express my style and choice of decor and because that space is my only outlet my room has always been so busy and cluttered. But as I grow older and have more freedom to put my mark on the rest of the house (that i will be moving into next week!). I feel I can finally tone down my bedroom and let it become a new sanctuary of peace and reflection yet still with splashes of colour and personality.

My hope is to create a space free of clutter with just my favourite belongings and lots of cozy soft textiles to sink into.
.
Here is some bedroom inspiration!
1. As a massive New Girl fan I couldn't miss out on showing Jessica Day's bedroom.
 2. I Found this beautiful white tranquil bedroom on the chocolate creative blog.
Oh and that gorgeous cushion can be bought here!
3 & 4. Images from Urban Outfitters I really love their floral bedding!

I am Happy...

Today I failed my driving test for the first time but oddly I am happy! There are far more worse things to be upset about and I'm so proud I got through it all with a smile on my face and I'm looking forward to round 2.  I think thats because over the last few days Ive really taken some time to myself. I always think the best thing about going away on holiday is the time to yourself to reflect. So despite not being on holiday I embraced the sunshine in the garden and for the first time in months, wrote down all my thoughts. Just making your thoughts comprehensible in writing just makes your mind feel so free. I think when I write down my worries too I end up writing down the answers to my problems and make goals for the future.
